“I hoped to create a film that is a celebration of the unique, intimate magic of queer people of color. Coming to terms with your sexual identity can be very isolating, and an often painful experience if you don’t have the support of your loved ones. Sunday’s Child is an ode of the transformative power of finding a community that accepts you for being exactly who you are. For those who have experienced this, it is a nostalgic reminder of the importance of uplifting those around us, and keeping an eye out for those who are struggling. And for those who have yet to find a loving queer community, it is a reminder that it truly does get better. They are out there, waiting for your paths to cross.

I believe whole-heartedly in the value and importance of diverse representation both in front of and behind the camera. We brought together a fantastic group of diverse women, including our Director, Writers, Producers, Director of Photography, Editor, Production Designer, Costume Designer, Colorist, Composers, Hair and Makeup Team, ADs and PAs. Our overall production and post-production crew was over 80% female, and a majority people of color. I think having a creative team that understands the story first hand will only ever deepen the film.”

Maisie Richardson-Sellers is an Oxford University educated talent out of the UK who recently made her TV directing debut shooting two episodes of DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW for WBTV & The CW. She also recently released her award winning short SUNDAY’S CHILD, which she co-wrote, directed and produced.
As an actress, she just wrapped Peter Kosminsky’s UK series The UNDECLARED WAR opposite Mark Rylance and Simon Pegg. She is one of the leads Netflix’s THE KISSING BOOTH 2 and 3, was previously a series regular on the CW’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, THE ORIGINALS and had a supporting role in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Maisie has also has starred in acclaimed stage productions of FOR COLORED GIRLS, MEPHISTO, and THEY WILL BE RED.

Upon finding that stories such as her own as a queer woman of colour are so rarely truthfully represented, she decided to create them. She recently founded ‘BAREFACED PRODUCTIONS’, a production company that focuses on narratives that center marginalized individuals and communities. Maisie has also directed several plays, a personal favourite being, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enough” by Ntozake Shange
