PROJECT UNLONELY FILMS Season 9
Anastasia Arsentyeva
The film is inspired by personal experiences. Born in Russia, and having moved away to the Netherlands at the age of seven, the separation from my family prompted me to explore the themes of loneliness and human connection.
1.2 MILLION is a work of fiction, but the social reality behind it is very real, as millions of seniors grapple with the loneliness, neglect and isolation that comes from living alone, often forgotten by society or their busy relatives. Often neglected as a population block by institutions who may focus on younger, more profitable groups for various reasons, many seniors go for an entire month without meaningful human contact, according to charity Age UK.
Anastasia Arsentyeva
Anastasia is a Russian-Dutch photographer and filmmaker currently based in London. A child of an international and isolated upbringing, she takes an interest in people with sidelined identities and often engages with themes of inter-generational relationships, intimacy and passing of time within her photographic and moving image work.
