Meet the Filmmaker

What is their why?

‘3 Minutes of Silence’ marks Ben’s 4th film as a Director/Writer. He began his career in theatre as an actor and director, running his own theatre company in the North East of England. On moving to London, Ben studied acting at the Drama Centre and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. For the past twenty years his career has been predominantly in film and television, where he has played leading roles in a number of major long-running UK dramas. His first film “I’M SORRY TO TELL YOU” was shown at 15 International film festivals and short listed at BAFTA. His second film “TAUBMAN” was shown at the Oscar qualifying Athens Film Festival, opened the Manchester film festival and was shown as part of a special section at the BAFTA Jewish Film Festival. ‘Hope Dies last,’ his third film, has come to the end of its festival run. Long listed at BAFTA and qualifying for OSCARS 2017, it also played 35 International film festivals.

“I wanted to investigate the generational nature of trauma and depression in younger years. If not resolved in us, then it can be passed on to further generations. The film is trying to open up a place for discussion to these issues. Often they aren’t talked about. Our previous films have all dealt with different types of trauma and its resolution. All of the films have opened up further debate. I found my way through it. But without help in our younger years. In this process we felt alone and abandoned. It doesn’t have to be that way.”
