Meet the Filmmaker

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

A recent graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory and newly inducted member of the Actors Studio Playwrights Directors Unit, Frank Donnangelo is an award winning writer-director whose past works have been supported by grants from Kodak and Fotokem, as well as the Panavision New Filmmaker Program. His talent for bringing the most supple character nuance to the screen is felt throughout his most recent film, THE MOTIONS, which tells the searing story of a woman’s complicated response to the inevitability of heartbreaking loss. Drawn to intimate character driven dramas, Frank strives in telling stories of consequence, those that reveal the raw human truths we tend to hide from one another, that resonate and evoke introspection within his audience. He is currently developing his debut feature film.

WHY THEY MADE THE FILM

“With THE MOTIONS, I wanted to explore the actions we often take as humans when confronted with the harsh realities of life. From the “we need to talk” conversation of a breakup to the news of losing a loved one, we often tend to deflect, ignore or even avoid the confrontation or reality altogether, as if by not acknowledging the issue makes the issue go away. It’s delaying the inevitable, traveling down paths of least resistance while using coping mechanisms to mask our pain. Although terminal illness plays a part in this film, THE MOTIONS is very much a story about relationships to me, asking the viewer if the one you love wants out, are you prepared to let go?”
