Meet the Filmmaker
What is their why?
Paige Morrow Kimball was raised with a Steenbeck in the closet of her Brooklyn apartment. When her dad wasn’t working the night shift as a DeeJay on the radio, he taught her to make films on 16mm celluloid. Together they made classics like “The Great Cookie Bake” and she was hooked on filmmaking. Today, Paige is an award-winning filmmaker and actor who tells stories through a lens of positivity, in both the documentary and scripted spaces. She created 16 films for HBO’s Sesame Street. Paige’s highly acclaimed documentary, POWERS, screened at Oscar Qualifying Festivals internationally, won 14 awards and was acquired by Trademark Films. Her award-winning social justice narrative film, PLAY DATE, won seven awards, and is now an educational program. Other projects include OFF THE WALL: LA, a documentary for PBS; award-winning comedy short, ENDING UP; and comedy pilots, LEMONADE and EXILED OUT EAST. Her films can be seen on Roku’s ZPTV DIRECT in a dedicated Director Showcase. Paige’s extensive credits in unscripted TV include PROJECT GREENLIGHT, THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW, 16 DAYS OF GLORY and many more. Paige was in the CBS Directors Program, the Sony Directors Program, the DGA Diverse Directors Mentorship Program and the WeForShe DirectHer Program. Her feature film, THE SO LONG SUMMER is currently in late development. As an actor, she has appeared in television shows, films, commercials, and theatre. Her work as an actor makes her a stronger director and her directing experience propels her acting craft. Paige’s articles about gender parity and ageism in Hollywood have been published in The Huffington Post. She co-founded advocacy groups, Best DirectHER and The Makazan Films Director Program in support of underrepresented directors. She’s a member of the DGA and SAG-AFTRA and holds a BFA from NYU Film School. Paige lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters.
“The inspiration for Play Date came after a chance drive through Los Angeles’ Skid Row several years ago. I was driving on side streets avoiding traffic, on my way to a concert in Downtown LA. I saw large crowds of people who were homeless, setting up tents for the night on the urban streets. It was a heartbreaking sight. This wasn’t far from my own home and yet, I didn’t know that this vast “tent city” existed. The theme that homelessness is in our backyards and yet it’s invisible, was the springboard for this short film. Play Date explores the loneliness and isolation experienced when being “other” and outcast from society. The film also explores the distraction we face in our modern world, because of our attention to our devices, and the isolation this can create. As a parent raising young children, I struggled to stay present in a world that pulled me in so many directions. In the film, the parents are distracted and don’t see what is happening right in front of them. By the end of the film, they become present and remember what is most important. Play Date is a modern-day fable that reminds us that every one of us has a story and that we all matter. My hope is that it will help audiences reconnect to the some of the humanity we have lost.”

What an unforgettable honor for the little girl to get to know, spend time, and make beautiful desserts with this lovely woman.
And, then, to see the beautiful desserts served to all deserving people.
I wish I had had such a friend… even if it was an imaginary friend…two people without judgment sharing sweet moments of warmth and acceptance.
Wow! This is beautiful! Very well done and yes hopeless, not hopeful yes!
Thank you so much for all of you who, certainly, worked very hard and tirelessly creating such a wonderful portrait of hope!!
This was such a deeply touching film! Sadness, disgust, awe, feeling like a child again, and even tears of hope and joy. All this in a short time. I truly enjoyed this and applaud the filmmakers and all involved!
